What I'm Doing Now

This is my now page (new tab) following the example of Derek Sivers (new tab).
I regularly update it to reflect what I'm currently focusing on.

Work

I'm still working as a freelance software engineer.
I also still do a fair amount of open source work (new tab).

Besides my day job, I'm building a course platform for interactive courses on self-management and personal development. I want every course to be interactive, helping you apply all the learnings immediately.
I'm also preparing the material for the very first course which will be all about figuring out what you want and setting reasonable goals to get there.

Education

I'm currently enrolled in theoretical philosophy marking the fourth module of my bachelor in cultural studies. I major in philosophy with history being my minor. It can be quite dry sometimes, but I do enjoy writing essays!
If you ever wondered what theoretical philosophy is like: a lot of math and Aristotle.

Hobbies

I'm still leading a scouts organisation (new tab) and volunteer for Watoto Kabisa (new tab).
Last month, I finally found a nice orchestra that accepted me as a contrabass player.

Whenever I find time, I also sit down and write some pages for my debut fantasy novel.
Given that English is my de facto day-to-day language these days, it's kinda nice to write in German from time to time.
I'm roughly halfway through, but currently in the process of rewriting the first part as I've gained so much experience and improved my writing skills that I'm no longer happy with what I've written before.
My plan is to do a total of three books, but let's see how it goes!

Social Life

I had quite an intensive September with scout events every weekend.
Therefore, for the rest of the year, I'm trying to relax a bit a spend quality time with my wife, family and friends.
Something I only started recently and really enjoy doing so far is monthly check-ins with a couple of friends. The idea is quite simple. We try to meet or call at least once per month and update each other on what's going on, what's on our mind and how we're doing in general.

Private

We're finally working together with an architect to shape our future house back in the forest where I grew up. Turns out building a house is both a lot of fun, but also super stressful and somewhat surreal. Still looking forward to next year when the actual building process will kick off.

Additionally, my wife and I are currently in the process of indexing our huge book collection. We're both avid readers and have accumulated a considerable amount over the past 10 years. Currently, there're roughly 800 items in our shelfs, growing month by month.

Fun fact
Once you have more than 1000 books, you can register them as a private library in Germany. Not that that's our ultimate goal, but I found it kinda funny anyways.

Special Interests

Last but not least, true to my autistic self, I always have at least two special interests that I'm completely obsessed with. Currently that's Feng shui, optical illusions such as magic eye stereograms, and, well, autism itself.
