Repetition Compulsion

Repetition compulsion describes the pull to reenact familiar but unhelpful patterns—often learned in earlier relationships or stressful contexts—in an unconscious attempt to regain control or achieve a different outcome.

You might keep choosing similar bosses/partners, recreate the same deadline crises or take on roles (rescuer, fixer, martyr) that feel "normal" even when they backfire.
