SMART

SMART is a goal framework and stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. It turns vague intentions into clear targets with evidence of completion.

SMART shines for operational outcomes and short-to-mid-term deliverables, but can under-aim when vision is unclear or over-optimize for what's easy to measure.

Use it to scope projects, then implement with weekly planning. That way, progress becomes visible, and trade-offs become explicit.

Practical tip

Pair it with a compelling Ideal End State and define leading indicators (weekly inputs) to avoid fixating only on lagging metrics.
